A motorcyclist killed Wednesday after striking a pickup truck in Puyallup has been identified as Timothy January.

January, 39, of Edgewood was riding a Harley Davidson east on East Pioneer Avenue when he struck a Ford F250 pickup truck as it turned onto 21st Street Southeast.

The accident happened just after 5 p.m.

Witnesses told police January was driving recklessly above the 35 mph speed limit before the crash, Capt. Scott Engle said.

January was thrown from his bike, which slid under the truck. He was pronounced dead at Tacoma General Hospital.

Engle said the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but not one that is approved by the state Department of Transportation.
