Fire at Stahl Junior High in Puyallup affects start of track season

Tacoma News TribuneApril 10, 2014

Coaches at Stahl Junior High School in Puyallup are working to borrow needed equipment for the start of track season, following a fire last week that destroyed the school track shed.

School district officials said that everything in the shed was destroyed in the April 3 fire, including hurdles, high jump pits, throwing implements and more.

District spokesman Brian Fox said Stahl coaches are working with staff at the district’s six other junior highs to borrow needed equipment until replacement gear can be purchased. He said that until new equipment arrives at Stahl, student athletes may have to compete at other schools.

A report from Graham Fire & Rescue, which responded to the blaze, said the building had no power source that could have ignited an electrical fire, and fire crews didn’t notice obvious signs of maintenance materials or chemicals that may have ignited.
