GO Arts: Tacoma Art Museum to close temporarily next week for interior renovations

Tacoma News TribuneApril 14, 2014

Tacoma Art Museum will be closed from April 23 through May 2 for interior renovations. The museum, which is undergoing a major extension project to build the new Haub Western Art wing, a new entrance canopy and improvements to the lower level entrance, will reopen to visitors on May 3.

To make up for the closure, though, the museum has booked a solid calendar of art events through May, ranging from sewing circles with commissioned sculptor Marie Watt and lectures by new Haub curator Laura Fry to appearances by art feminist icons the Guerilla Girls, photographer Matika Wilbur and painters Camille Patha and Mark Takamichi Miller. May is also National Bike Month, and there’ll be a bike-themed exhibit “Inky Spokes” showing.

Tacoma Art Museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. third Thursdays at 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. 253-272-4258, tacomaartmuseum.org.
