Trailside Cyclery in Orting reopens

Bike shop closed for months after attack on owner

Staff writerApril 15, 2014

Trailside Cyclery near the Foothills Trail in Orting re-opened its doors Tuesday after an attack on its owner closed the shop for months.

Brian Backus was injured in a confrontation with minors last October. He had surgery on a broken leg and closed the shop as a result.

Two males, a 15-year-old and 17-year-old, spent time in juvenile detention after they were found guilty of second-degree assault in the attack.

Backus confirmed with The News Tribune on Tuesday that he was back in business full time, but didn't want to comment further.
