Troopers rescue German shepherd from SR 512

Staff writerApril 17, 2014

Troopers on Thursday rescued a Golden shepherd who was running loose on state Route 512 near Steele Street.

After roughly 10 drivers called 911 to report the dog, two troopers went to the area about 10:30 a.m. and slowed traffic so they could reach the dog.

The pooch appeared to be tiring out and was heading for Interstate 5 when a passerby stopped and offered troopers food to lure the dog in. Troopers were able to trap the dog near a fence and use a strap to tie on the dog's collar and walk him off the road.

“He was a little skittish but we got him corralled and put him in a patrol car,” trooper Guy Gill said.

The dog, who appeared to be in good health, had no tags but was wearing a black leather collar with small spikes. He was turned over to Lakewood Animal Control.
