The Tacoma Rainiers have apparently wronged Mother Nature. They were rained out Saturday night for the fifth time this season.
Saturday night’s game against the Sacramento River Cats was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Sunday at Cheney Stadium.
The Rainiers will start their four-game series against the River Cats at 1:35 p.m., with right-hander Jordan Pries making his Triple-A debut against right-hander Sean Murphy (2-1, 5.06 ERA). The second game will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Left-hander James Gillheeney (1-1, 4.50) will start for the Rainiers and face right-hander Marcus Walden, who will make his River Cats debut.
Pries was called up from the Double-A Jackson Generals on Saturday. He will be the eighth pitcher to start a game this season for the Rainiers.
He also will be the seventh player to make his Triple-A debut with the Rainiers in 2014. They have played just 14 games.
Pries will make his debut in front of a revamped Rainiers roster.
Since the beginning of the season, the Rainiers have made 23 transactions. Fifteen of those have come in the past week.
Also, first baseman Jesus Montero and pitcher Chance Ruffin were temporarily inactive Saturday.
Montero was unavailable because his first child was expected at any time.
Ruffin was not available because of personal reasons.todd.dybas@ thenewstribune.com @Todd_Dybas
