Man killed in hit-and-run accident in Lakewood identified

A 19-year-old man trying to flag down help after a car accident Sunday was then run down and killed by a passing vehicle, Lakewood police said.

The driver did not stop and police are asking for the public’s help in identifying him. Lt. Chris Lawler said the vehicle was a tan or white Ford Windstar type minivan driven by a young white man with at least three others in the vehicle.

The minivan likely has front end damage near the right front fender. It could also have damage to the undercarriage.

The victim was identified as Tauave Seiaute of Tacoma.

The accident took place about 5 a.m. in the 4000 block of 96th Street South. Seiaute drove off the road and crashed, police said. He then walked into the road to flag down help.

A westbound minivan struck Seiaute and immediately fled. His passenger told officers he yelled at the driver but the minivan kept going.

Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle is asked to call the Lakewood Police Department at 253-830-5000 or the department’s tip line at 253-830-5064.
