Port Angeles, WA Nine wineries located between Chimacum and Port Angeles will partner with local cheese-makers to create unique pairings that exemplify the flavors of the region Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. Wine specials will be available throughout the weekend.
Our regional cheese-makers are producing some fantastic goat, sheep and cow milk cheeses that pair exceptionally well with our new wine releases, says Vicki Corson, president of the Olympic Peninsula Wineries Association. We invite wine lovers from around the Sound to come and discover some new favorites.
Advance tickets for the self-guided tour are available online for $30.00, and include wine and cheese tasting at all nine wineries plus a commemorative wine glass. Highlights from this years tour include:
Seasonal Honey Meadow Cider and new release 2014 Finnriver Fire Barrel Cider will be paired with sheeps milk cheeses from Glendale Shepherd Dairy of Whidbey Island and shortbread by Ancas Pastries. Sunday kicks-off the Woodfire Pizza series, posse of piglets at Finnriver Farm & Cidery, Chimacum.
New release Gray Cat Oregon Pinot Gris, Come Home Riesling and Yellow Truck Apple Wine, made with apples grown on Marrowstone Island, will be paired with a variety of goat cheeses by Mystery Bay Farm at FairWinds Winery in Port Townsend, sample current wine releases paired with a selection of cheeses by award-winning Mt. Townsend Creamery. Enjoy a winery tour plus an exclusive barrel tasting.
Saturday, Port Townsends Wind Rose Cellars of Sequim will pair its new release 2013 Rosato, a dry rosé, and Bell Bottom White, a funky blend of Muscat and Pinot Grigio, plus its series of award-winning Italian-style wines with a selection of sheep cheeses from Black Sheep Creamery of Chehalis. Additional wines will be available for tasting at the VIP bar. Live music starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday featuring Sarah Shea and Chez Jazz.
In Port Angeles, Black Diamond Winery of Port Angeles will pair Queso con Salsa, chives and onion, and Medium Cheddar cheeses from Golden Glen Creamery with its Shiro plum, boysenberry, strawberry and raspberry wines.
Assorted cheeses from Willapa Hills Farmstead of Doty, home of Big Boy Blue, Pluvius, and Ewe Old Cow cheeses made from both sheep and cows milk, will be paired with the newly released 2011 Cabernet Franc and 2011 Madrona, a red wine blend, at Harbinger Winery of Port Angeles will host a Whirled Cheese Tour, featuring an array of locally-made cheeses from Samish River Creamery in Bow. Taste the highly versatile and cheese-friendly Petite Fleur wine; pair the vibrant Viognier with a soft-ripened cheese that was aged to perfection near the banks of the Samish River; and savor the in-house favorite El Jefe with a beautiful organic cheese that was aged for up to nine years. Also featured will be Togas Northwest Focaccia, and the winerys signature Smokey Blue Cheese & Bacon Mac & Cheese.
