UPDATE: Crews respond to unusual power outage in University Place

Staff writerApril 22, 2014

UPDATE: About 85 people were without power until about 3 a.m., due to an equipment failure, Tacoma Public Utilities spokeswoman Chris Gleason said.

INITIAL POST: Tacoma Public Utilities said shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday that it had an "unusual" power outage in University Place.

About 225 people had either partial power or no power, the agency said via Facebook.

It wasn't immediately clear what partial power entailed, but the agency said it meant "some things work and some things don't." One woman, Lesa Stone, commented on the Facebook message that she had power in her living room, but not the rest of her house.

Crews were investigating to determine what caused the outage. When they figured that out, the agency expected to have a better idea when power would be restored.
