5 National Park Service workers to be added to National Law Enforcement Memorial

Mount Rainier National Park law enforcement ranger Margaret Anderson's name was added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial in 2013. This year the name of five NPS workers who died more than 40 years ago will be added.

NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL

A year after Mount Rainier National Park law enforcement ranger Margaret Anderson’s name was added to the Washington, D.C.,  National Law Enforcement Memorial, five more National Park Service workers will be added.

According to a statement published Wednesday on its website, the NPS will see the following names of people added to the memorial: USPP Officer Carl Hestikind (died February 18, 1936), Ranger Nathaniel R. Lacy (June 23, 1966), Ranger Kenneth Meenan (August 13, 1934), Ranger Robert Dean Metherell (February 7, 1973), and Ranger Ronald V. Trussell (February 7, 1973).

Hestikind’s cause of death is listed as exposure on the Officer Down Memorial Page. Lacy and Meenan died in motorcycle accidents. Metherell and Trussell were killed in an aircraft accident.

Anderson was shot and killed by a park visitor on Jan. 1, 2012.
