Drug 'take back' day will have 7 Pierce County sites Saturday

Staff writerApril 24, 2014

Unused prescription drugs can be safely disposed of at several Pierce County locations Saturday as part of the annual drug “take back” day.

As part of the one-day nationwide event, expired or unwanted medicine or controlled substances can be discarded anonymously.

Officials say flushing medicine down the toilet or throwing it away creates safety hazards in Puget Sound and landfills and for sanitation workers who deal with waste.

People can drop off drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:

Puyallup Police Department, 311 West Pioneer, Puyallup

Gig Harbor City Hall lobby, 3510 Grandview Street, Gig Harbor

University Place Police Department, 3609 Market Place West, Suite 201, University Place

Sprinker Recreation Center parking lot, 14824 South C St., Tacoma

Pierce County sheriff’s South Hill precinct, 271 John Bananola Way E., Puyallup

Sumner Police Department lobby, 1104 Maple St., Sumner

Edgewood/Milton Police Department collection site in the Albertson’s parking lot, 2800 Milton Way, Milton
