Motorcycle driver killed in Vashon crash Saturday afternoon

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision late Saturday afternoon on Vashon Island, the King County Sheriff’s Office has reported.

The victim was not identified. Early indications showed the northbound motorcyclist had stopped to make a left turn and was hit from behind,said Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.

Investigators were dispatched to the scene in the 12400-block of Vashon Highway S.W., not far from the Washington State Ferry dock at the north end of the island.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, West said.

The highway was closed and expected to reopen by 8 p.m. Residents were advised to detour on the Burma Road.

Preliminary information indicated that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident, West said.
