Point Defiance hosts ling cod derby Saturday

The sixth annual Point Defiance Ling Cod Derby will take place Saturday.

The derby, celebrating the start of the bottom fishing season in Puget Sound, offers cash and prizes for the biggest fish.

The ling cod season opens Thursday and will run through June 15. The minimum length is 26 inches, with a maximum length of 36 inches. The daily limit is one fish.

All state Department of Fish and Wildlife fishing rules apply for the derby. Only legally caught fish will qualify for the derby.

The entry fee is $15 per angler. The derby will run from 6 a.m.-1 p.m.
