Adventure rower Jordan Hanssen will be the featured speaker at the Olympia Mountaineers Adventure Presentation May 7.

Hanssen’s “Rowing Into the Son” is his account of his experience on a 29-foot rowboat as the only American competitors in the first North Atlantic Rowing Race in 2006.

Hanssen and his three teammates rowed through hurricane-speed winds, passing freighters, flying fish, sharks and more. His story includes the dilemma that developed on Day 17 – with another 55 days to go – when the crew realized their food was running out.

The program will be at Friends Meeting House at Priest Point, 3201 Boston Harbor Road, Olympia. It begins at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner and social hour. Attendees should bring a dish to share, plus their own plates and flatware. Hanssen’s talk will begin at 7 p.m.
