Dolphins pick up Pouncey's option

Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday that the team has exercised its fifth-year option on center Mike Pouncey, keeping the 2013 Pro Bowl selection under contract through the 2015 season.

Pouncey will earn $7.438 million in the final year of his rookie deal, though the 2015 salary is guaranteed for injury only.

Taken by the Dolphins with the 15th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Pouncey has started all but two games over his three seasons in Miami and earned his first career Pro Bowl nod in 2013.

The 24-year-old was involved in some controversy this past year, however, having been one of the players named in attorney Ted Wells' investigation of the Jonathan Martin bullying scandal. According to Wells' report, Pouncey, along with fellow offensive linemen Richie Incognito and John Jerry, engaged in a repeated pattern of harassment that ultimately led to Martin leaving the team in late October.
