Peak-season fares for Pierce County Ferry start Thursday

The News TribuneApril 29, 2014

Higher, peak-season fares and some schedule changes will go into effect Thursday for the Pierce County ferry between the Town of Steilacoom, Anderson Island and Ketron Island.

Rates for passengers driving vehicles 21 feet in length or less will increase from the non-peak season rate of $17.30 to the peak season rate of $21.65. Rates for motorcyclists will increase from $9.30 to $11.65. They are among rate hikes in place through Sept. 30.

Schedule changes include:

— The Thursday run now leaving Steilacoom at 8:40 p.m. will continue year-round to allow ferry riders to attend after-school and other evening activities. This change was made possible by not restarting the Sunday run departing Steilacoom at 10 p.m., which has low ridership.

— Starting Thursday, the first run Monday to Friday will no longer stop at Ketron Island and will leave Anderson Island 15 minutes earlier at 6:15 a.m. so commuters can get to work earlier. The second run Monday to Friday will depart Steilacoom 15 minutes earlier at 6:45 a.m., and a stop at Ketron Island will be added.
