PREP ZONE TUESday’s highlights

Tyler Swanson hit a game-winning single to lift SPSL 3A first-place Decatur, 8-7, over league rival Auburn Mountainview in baseball. Chris Carns and Brandon Zimmerman hit home runs as Garrett Westberg earned the win for the Gators (11-2). Decatur’s victory moves the Gators to 11/2 games in front of the second-place Lions (10-4).

In fastpitch, Puyallup’s Marissa Miller struck out six batters in her win as teammate Kylie Perez hit a three-run homer in her only at bat. The first-place Vikings won 16-0 in five innings over Spanaway Lake to secure the SPSL South title. Natalie Joyner (3-for-4) scored three times while smacking a triple in the win.

Tahoma’s Maddie Scott picked up a five-inning win, and the Bears captured the SPSL North title with a 14-3 victory over fourth-place Jefferson. Scott and teammate Jensen Burton (3-for-4, 2 RBIs) each launched a home run for Tahoma.

Kendall Goodwin struck out 11 as SPSL North second-place Kentwood beat Auburn Riverside, 11-4. The Conquerors (9-3) are a game ahead of Mount Rainier (8-4), which lost to Kentridge, 3-2.

In boys soccer, RogersCooper Gray scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute, and a goal by teammate John Willet in the 75th put the game out of reach as the SPSL South first-place Rams shut out Spanaway Lake, 2-0. Jake Fredrickson earned the shutout in the win.

Puyallup was able to pick up a 2-1 road win over third-place Todd Beamer. The Vikings (10-2-1) remain in first-place of the SPSL South with Rogers (9-1-3) in second.
