Staff writerApril 30, 2014

Lakewood police dogs Ranger and Koda have new protective vests, as part a of fundraising campaign that outfitted six K-9s in the state, the department said Wednesday.

A Massachusetts-based nonprofit called Vested Interest in K9s raised $6,300 for the vests online.

The gear is bullet- and stab-proof.

Kent police dogs Kato and Ghost, and Okanogan County Sheriff's dogs Gunner and Ayk also received vests.

The nonprofit gives the vests to new police dogs, as well as those with expired vests. The gear costs $950.00 per dog, and has a five-year warranty.
