Pursuit of stolen car ends in University Place

Staff writerMay 1, 2014

A pursuit from Lakewood to University Place ended Thursday after the suspect crashed his car and fled over a fence, police said.

The incident started just after 8 a.m. in the parking lot of a Lakewood store in the 7000 block of Bridgeport Way West.

A woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend stole her car after an argument. An officer spotted the car heading toward University Place and tried to pull it over.

The 25-year-old man behind the wheel refused to stop. Several other law enforcement officers joined the chase, which ended after the man crashed at Bridgeport and 31st Street West.

Police set up a containment area and used a tracking dog but were unable to locate the man. The search was called off about 10:15 a.m.

Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler said they know who the man is and will arrest him later.
