Meeting planned for Lakewood's proposed amphitheater

Tacoma News TribuneMay 5, 2014

A community meeting has been scheduled for Thursday for people to hear plans about building an amphitheater in Fort Steilacoom Park.

The city of Lakewood's Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is hosting the meeting that starts at 6 p.m. near the barns at the proposed project site at the park.

The meeting will offer an opportunity for people to learn more about the project, ask questions and offer feedback. Park in the gravel parking lot near the dog park and the lake and look for the meeting tent. Direction signs will be posted at the park entrance.

The Lakewood Rotary Club proposed building the amphitheater, announcing at a City Council meeting it was the club's primary fundraiser for the year. The club hopes to raise close to $300,000 needed to build the theater. The club and city hope the theater will become a regional draw, offering outdoor concerts and other family-friendly events.

People who can't attend, but want to contribute, are asked to submit comments in writing. Email comments to; mail comments to Lakewood Parks Department, 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, WA 98499; or drop comments off at City Hall.
