Staff writerMay 5, 2014

The board of directors at United Way of Pierce County has elected Linda Nguyen, CEO of WorkForce Central, as their new chair-elect. She will be working with current chair James McCormick of Messina Bulzomi Christensen Attorneys.

“United Way’s focus on young children and their families is the first step in developing a successful workforce of the future,” Nguyen stated in a release Monday.  “Research shows that children who perform at or above grade level by age 10 are much more likely to graduate high school and be prepared for post-secondary education that will lead to high wage careers. I’m honored and excited to help lead the board through this important work.”

Nguyen has over 20 years experience in workforce development and has earned a baccalaureate degree from University of Puget Sound. She also serves as a board member of the Tacoma Pierce County Economic Development Board, Washington Economic Development Association, Geneva Foundation, RallyPoint/6, and Comprehensive Life Resources.

She is a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council board of trustees and is active on multiple college and K-12 advisory committees.
