Puyallup police arrest alleged slipper thief

Staff writerMay 9, 2014

Operations Slippers took up the time of several Puyallup police officers Friday morning as they searched for a 21-year-old man who allegedly shoplifted a new pair of kicks.

The man, wearing old battered slippers, walked into Walmart about 8:30 a.m. and carefully selected a new pair of slippers. He left his in the store and took the new ones, Capt. Scott Engle said. That is the only item the man reportedly stole.

As he fled, his girlfriend stayed behind and gave officers the alleged thief’s name. Turns out he has a felony warrant for drugs so police began a search. A tracking dog found the man, clad only in blue shorts and a T-shirt, in the 700 block of 43rd Avenue SE.
