A SWAT team surrounded a North End home Friday after a man threatened to shoot himself with a shotgun, Tacoma police said.

Investigators eventually found a rifle but no shotgun inside the house in the 900 block of North Alder Street, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. The man they were seeking wasn’t there.

The man’s wife called 911 about 1:10 p.m. to report her husband had locked himself in the bathroom and was suicidal, Cool said. A SWAT team responded to try to coax the man safely outside.

His wife, the only other person at the home, came outside when police arrived. The incident ended peacefully about 2:40 p.m.

The man was “considered missing, suicidal,” Cool said.
