Giants 1B Belt fractures thumb

Los Angeles, CA ( - San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt suffered a broken left thumb in the top of the second inning of Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Belt was hurt when he was hit on the hand by an 87-mph fastball from Paul Maholm. He remained in the contest to run the bases, but was then removed in favor of Joaquin Arias in the bottom of the inning.

So far this season, Belt is hitting .264 with nine homers and 18 RBI.
