Motorcyclist wrecks into Pierce County creek and dies

Staff writerMay 16, 2014

A Buckley man riding his motorcycle alongside Pierce County's Voights Creek died after he wrecked, fell into the water and was washed downstream, sheriff's deputies reported Friday.

The incident took place about 3:30 p.m., sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said. Voights Creek is a tributary of the Carbon River east of Orting.

The rider, 21, lost control of his Honda dirt bike while trying to negotiate a curve, hit some logs and flew into the creek, Troyer said.

He was swept downstream about 200 yards. Firefighters called to the scene attempted CPR, but the rider could not be revived, Troyer said.

Authorities were attempting to retrieve the person's body Friday afternoon.

The man was not wearing a helmet.
