Woman seriously injured in Tacoma crash

A 21-year-old woman was seriously injured Sunday after crashing her car in Tacoma.

The accident took place about 9:40 p.m. at South 62nd and Oakes streets.

Police said the woman appeared to be racing a 29-year-old man, whose vehicle hit the woman’s Honda as they sped down the street. She then struck a parked car and power pole.

The woman was trapped inside the car until firefighters could remove her. She was taken to St. Joseph Hospital with head injuries.

The man was also taken to the hospital with injuries. He was later booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular assault and driving on a suspended license.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving.
