Car hits, kills man crossing Sixth Avenue in Tacoma

A 59-year-old man was killed Monday night while crossing the street in Tacoma.

An Acura MDX struck the man in the 6100 block of Sixth Avenue about 7:45 p.m. Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the 37-year-old driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The pedestrian was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he later died. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet identified the man.

The driver was not cited or arrested. Prosecutors will decide later whether to file criminal charges.
