A marijuana drug lab exploded just before 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of Shaw Road East, Puyallup police said.

No one was injured, and three people at the home were being detained and interviewed as of about 11 p.m., Sgt. Dan Pashon said.

He said it appeared the fire was caused by a THC extraction explosion, and that it was not yet clear if they would be arrested,.

Someone at the residence called 911 to say their home was on fire.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue spokesman Guy Overby said shortly after 10 p.m. that the blaze was out.

It appeared the explosion happened in front of the home, and propelled butane bottles some 50 to 80 feet from the residence, Pashon said.

"They are used in the (THC) extraction process," he added.

Multiple explosions happened at the scene, but once it was stabilized there was no danger to the surrounding community, police said.

Shaw Road was closed from 12th Avenue Southeast to 23rd Avenue Southeast as crews investigated, and police advised drivers to take other routes until Wednesday morning.
