University Place shooting victim identified

Staff writerMay 21, 2014

Investigators are still looking into what prompted the fatal shooting of a man in University Place Tuesday.

Although a motive has not yet been released, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said the slaying appears to be drug-related.

The victim has been identified as Phillip Little, 27. Nobody has been arrested.

Little’s body was found about 2:30 p.m. near South 56th and South Orchard streets in an area between two strip malls. It was down an embankment known to law enforcement as a spot where drug deals often happen.

His vehicle was parked near the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing two men in baseball hats flee the scene. The department is collecting surveillance footage in the area and may later release more information on the suspects.
