A Summit-area man suspected of shooting a teenager who allegedly broke into a neighboring home has been released from jail.

Pierce County prosecutors have sent the case back to the Sheriff’s Department for further investigation before they decide whether to charge the 23-year-old man.

The incident took place Tuesday in the 17700 block of 84th Avenue East.

The man confronted a 17-year-old boy as he left a vacant house next door and told the teen he was calling police. As the teen fled in his van, the man allegedly chased after him and fired several shots.

At least one round struck the teen, who called 911 when he got home. He told deputies he’d been shot in a drive-by shooting.

Deputies pierced together the stories from teen and the alleged shooter and realized they were related.
