The sun came out, streets dried and traffic stalled Friday afternoon along southbound Interstate 5 near Tacoma and on other major roadways.

The start to Memorial Day weekend typically brings high volumes of traffic on I-5 and the mountain passes, the Washington State Department of Transportation said.

In addition to the slowdown on I-5, WSDOT was reporting traffic on Interstate 405 and Interstate 90.

In anticipation of the crawl out of town, WSDOT set up a guide to navigating the holiday rush on its website. Tools include a phone number to call for updates and live views of traffic cameras from around the state.

Plan your commute and keep an eye out for trouble spots with help from the guide here: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/News/2014/05/20_MemorialDay_2014.htm.
