A 22-year-old Washington woman died Saturday after a man crashed into her All Terrain Vehicle at the Boxcar Hill area of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation area, police said.

Kristen Schroeder, of Graham, Wash., was knocked off her vehicle and fell into the sand after she was struck by an ATV driven by a 20-year-old man from Longview, Wash., police said.

The man was jumping a dune with a spotter when he collided with Schroeder, police said. He was uninjured in the crash.

Schroeder was transported to Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay, where she died. Both riders were wearing safety helmets, police said.

Downing said the investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Coos County District Attorney’s office to determine if any charges should be brought.
