Police release sketch of Fircrest luring suspect

Staff writerMay 29, 2014

Police released a sketch Thursday of a man they say tried to lure a Fircrest middle school student into his car Wednesday.

The man drove up to the girl about 7:20 a.m., as she was walking to her bus stop on Alameda Avenue, near Whittier Elementary School, police said.

He honked the horn of the gold four-door sedan he was driving, drove past her, then drove past her again and offered her candy and money to get into the vehicle, police said.

The girl fled to a neighbor's house to get help, and the man left.

He's described as heavyset, is his mid 30s, wearing a black baseball hat and white jacket, with a black and red stripe on the shoulders. There was not a clear description of the man's race, which was said to be either black or Asian.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Tips are anonymous, and can result in a reward.
