(SportsNetwork.com) - With their sights set on their fourth win in the last five games, the Cincinnati Reds will close out a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Cincinnati rolled to a 5-0 victory over Arizona on Saturday night.
"Another excellent performance," Reds manager Bryan Price said of Cueto. "(It) was certainly needed because we are trying to put some wins together."
Brandon Phillips was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Billy Hamilton and Skip Schumaker each added two hits as well in the winning effort.
Gerardo Parra went 3-for-4 for the Diamondbacks, but the rest of the lineup managed just three additional hits on 28 at-bats.
The Diamondbacks lost center fielder A.J. Pollock, who was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning and suffered a fractured right hand.
"It's fractured so we're waiting on some more tests and stuff and see what we're going to do," said Pollock. "Just have to wait and see what's going on."
Diamondback's starter Brandon McCarthy dropped to 1-7 in the contest. The right-hander allowed five runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Coming off one of his worst starts of the season, Alfredo Simon will try to get back on track when he takes the mound for Cincinnati on Sunday.
Simon was lit up for five runs and did not make it out of the fourth inning in a 6-3 loss against the Dodgers in his last start. The loss dropped him to 6-3 on the season, but the damage to his ERA was a bit more severe, although that still sits at an impressive 2.90.
Such success in ERA has been commonplace for Simon in Cincinnati, where he has a 2.82 mark in three seasons, although this is his first as a full-time starter. He did not make a single start for the Reds in 2012 or 2013.
He has never made a start against Arizona, but has not allowed a run in four relief appearances against the team.
Wade Miley will oppose Simon as the starter for the hosting Diamondbacks.
Miley put forth one of his best starts of the season when he last took the hill. He gave up three runs on eight hits, but lasted seven innings and struck out a career-high 11 batters against San Diego. Unfortunately, he did not factor in the decision, as the Diamondbacks lost 4-3.
On the season Miley has worked 75 2/3 innings and made 12 starts. In that time he has an ERA of 4.76, while tying for the most wild pitches (six) in the NL.
Miley is 1-0 with a 4.67 ERA in three career starts against the Reds.
This is the first series of the season between these teams this season. Cincinnati won four of seven meetings last year.
