Tacoma dinner event focuses on academic performance

City Club of Tacoma will have a dinner discussion Wednesday focused on improving the academic performance of students in Tacoma Public Schools.

Panelists will include Superintendent Carla Santorno; School Board member Catherine Ushka; Eric Wilson, president of the Foundation for Tacoma Students; and Nathan Gibbs-Bowling, Lincoln High School teacher and recipient of the national Milken Education Award.

They will discuss the school district’s 85 percent graduation rate target and other issues affecting high school graduation in Tacoma.

The event starts with a social hour at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Puget Sound, followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m. The cost is $25 for club members and $30 for nonmembers.
