E.T. has again fallen ill and was moved behind the scenes last week, according to Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium.
The popular 3,000-pound walrus battled a gastrointestinal infection last month and was kept out of his public exhibit at Rocky Shores for about two weeks while he was treated. He went back on exhibit last week but on Thursday his keepers noticed he was again lethargic and refusing to eat.
He is in guarded condition and veterinarians are giving him fluid and various medications while monitoring his blood work. They said E.T. may have an underlying condition that predisposes him to the infection.
The zoos other two walruses, Joan and Basilla, have shown no sign of illness.
E.T., 31, has been in Tacoma since 1982.
