Phillies sign Marquis to minor league deal

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies signed pitcher Jason Marquis to a minor league contract on Tuesday.

Marquis, 35, pitched for San Diego in 2013 and went 9-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 20 starts. The right-hander had Tommy John surgery on his elbow last July.

He has played in 368 career games (309 starts) with the Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Rockies, Nationals, Diamondbacks, Twins and Padres, going 121-114 with a 4.56 ERA.

He will report to Clearwater, Florida, for extended spring training beginning Wednesday.
