You get a whole new dimension on music when you hear it performed on the instrument it was originally written for. This Friday at the “Music at Christ Church” series at Christ Episcopal, Tacoma, audiences will get to hear 16th-century Dutch organ music played on an instrument made in America but modeled after the great Dutch and North German organs of the 16th to 18th centuries.
But the organist will be Italian. Fabio Ciofini, an Italian concert organist who performs regularly around Europe and North America, has just finished a recording for Italian label La Bottega Discantica on Christ Church’s famous Brombaugh organ, and will play that music in his recital Friday night: works by 16th-century greats Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Abraham van den Kerckhoven, Anthoni van Noordt and Pieter Cornet.
7:30 p.m. June 6. Entry by donation. Christ Episcopal church, 310 North K Street, Tacoma. 253-383-1569, ccptacoma.org. Donation at the door.
