With the No. 6 overall pick in the 2014 first-year player draft, the Mariners selected catcher/outfielder Alex Jackson, a high-school prospect from San Diego.

Jackson is listed at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds by MaxPreps. He is orally committed to play for the University of Oregon.

According to MaxPreps, Jackson batted .400 as a senior at Rancho Bernardo High School with 11 home runs. He hit 47 homers during his high-school career.

The Mariners see him as an outfielder first, but general manager Jack Zduriencik said it’s not impossible that he could play catcher.
