Mariners notebook: Cole Gillespie gaining increased playing time

The hottest-hitting Mariner over the last two weeks? Would you believe outfielder Cole Gillespie?

OK, it's a small sample size, but Gillespie entered Saturday on a 7-for-13 surge that boosted his average from .217 to .333, which is one reason he drew a rare start against a right-handed opponent.

"I'm not trying to do too much at the plate," he said, "but I know what I'm capable of doing."

This was a good time to show it.
