Former coach accused of molesting Federal Way High basketball player

A former Federal Way High School basketball coach has been arrested and accused of molesting a 15-year-old female basketball player.

Brianna Strong, 23, is being held in the King County jail, after her arrest Friday. She has not yet been formally charged, but court documents indicate she is being investigated for possible child rape and molestation, as well as for viewing and possessing child pornography.

A judge set bail Monday at $70,000, and Strong is scheduled for a second court appearance Wednesday.

Strong was not a regular member of the high school staff, but had been hired for her first season as a coach, Federal Way Public Schools spokeswoman Deb Stenberg said Monday. Stenberg said Strong resigned over the weekend.

According to court documents, Federal Way police learned of an inappropriate sexual relationship from the girl. She told police the relationship began at the end of 2013 and included kissing and sexual touching, according to documents. The girl also told police she and Strong had talked about their age difference, and discussed waiting until she was 16 to start a sexual relationship.

Documents say that after her arrest, Strong admitted the relationship to detectives and told them of at least one touching incident that occurred in her vehicle parked outside of the girl’s home. She also admitted to exchanging nude photos with the girl, documents say.

School officials sent a letter to parents Monday, stating they became aware of the allegations Friday. The letter noted that parents can report concerns to police or by calling the district’s Safe Schools Tip Line at 253-945-7233.
