Puyallup school chief to forgo raise for 3 years

Puyallup School District Superintendent Tim Yeomans has earned praise and a three-year contract extension — but no raise — from the Puyallup School Board.

His annual base salary will remain at $191,294, and the contract will remain in effect through 2017.

Yeomans chose to forgo a raise, citing the school district’s current and anticipated economic climate.

School Board President Chris Ihrig called the superintendent’s choice another example of his “commitment to stewardship and accountability.”

“Dr. Yeomans brings his A-game in leading the Puyallup School District,” Ihrig said in a news release. “He continues to impress with his ability to build an educational culture of engagement, collaboration, innovation, results and excellence.”

Yeomans came to Pierce County’s second-largest school district in July 2012 from the Meridian School District near Bellingham.

Yeomans received an overall score of 3.75 on a 4-point scale on this year’s evaluation. Board members praised him for his diligence in keeping board members informed, his focus on tangible goals and his transformation of district culture to include partnerships with the community.

He earned a top rating on all six characteristics under both the “business and finance” and “personal and professional qualities” headings.

In addition to base salary, Yeomans will continue to receive a $600 monthly allowance for car travel within Pierce, Thurston and King counties.

He also will keep receiving $1,466.66 a month toward purchase of a tax-sheltered annuity, and annual stipends of $2,000 for holding a superintendent’s credential and $5,000 for holding a doctoral degree. His contract also allows $200 monthly for miscellaneous expenses.
