A 16-year-old Tacoma boy called police on Tuesday and said hed killed his father and buried his body in the backyard.
Police confirmed later Tuesday that officers found a body outside the familys home in the 1900 block of South Madison Street. Spokeswoman Loretta Cool said the death was not natural, and was being investigated as a homicide.
She declined to provide the gender of the body or say where on the property it was found, or whether it had been buried. She said the Pierce County Medical Examiners Office would identify the person.
No other details were released.
The teen, who called 911 about 9 a.m. Tuesday to said hed killed his father, was detained but refused to tell police where the body was or to provide any additional information, Cool said. Detectives got a warrant and searched for the body at the home.
A forensics team processed the scene and officers inspected the wooded property. A dog specially trained to detect human remains was brought in to help investigators.
The 49-year-old father was reported missing Saturday, police said. He last spoke to his wife early Saturday and told her he was at home, Cool said. When the wife returned home, her husband was not there and she reported him missing later that day.
Neighbors said the family has lived at the home for about 15 years.
Neighbor Martha Small said she knew little about the family but was surprised to find police in her neighborhood.
I think its pretty crazy, I mean its shocking, Small said about the teens claim to have killed his father.
