Olympic National Park opens Deer Park Campground and road

Deer Park Road and campground opened Wednesday morning at Olympic National Park.

The road is open to the campground and the upper section is expected to open by the end of the week. The upper section is closed because of erosion damage according to a statement released by the park.

The park’s announcement advices visitors “to use caution while driving this winding gravel road, particularly over the coming week when heavy equipment will be operating along the road  A road grader will work on improving the road’s gravel surface this week.”

Deer Park Campground is a primitive camping area with pit toilets but no drinking water.

Also open at the par is the 1.5-mile Hurricane Hill Road beyond the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center.

 

The campground provides primitive camping, with pit toilets and no drinking water. The park hopes to open the first three miles of Obstruction Point Road by the end of June.
