Father’s Day is approaching which means it’s an ideal weekend for lake finishing. Crews are stocking 20 lakes with 10,000 11/2-pound triploid rainbow trout in time for the Father’s Day weekend. Some South Sound lakes that will be stocked include American, Clear, Hicks and Mason lakes and Elma’s Vance Creek Pond No. 2.
American: David Anderson of Bill’s Boathouse says trolling for kokanee is “good to very good” but you need to be on the water early. Most anglers are hitting their limit by 7:30 a.m. Perch are starting to bite and Rainbow trout are abundant.
Spanaway: This lake might not be on the Father’s Day stocking list, “but we still have a lot of fish,” said Bud Herlitzka of the Spanaway Park Boat House. A fly fisherman caught (and released) 26 fish on Tuesday. Anglers are regularly hitting their limits on rainbows and the browns are biting too. Dock fishing is also improving, Herlitzka said. Herlitzka recommends dock anglers use bait with a 4-foot leader.
Tanwax: Rainbow RV Resort report hosts a fishing derby Saturday, June 14, starting at 6 a.m. For the occasions, 150 3- to 8-pound rainbow trout will be released. Until then, the fishing is on the slow side but most anglers are still getting limits if they put in their time. Boat anglers are doing better than dock anglers.
Mineral: The pressure has been light despite good weather. Anglers are doing well with PowerBait according to the Mineral Lake Resort staff. Trollers are also doing well using pop gear.
Offut: Rainbow trout are biting.
Stevens: Kokanee fishing has been good here in recent days.
