A nursing assistant has been charged with unprofessional conduct for allegedly sexually assaulting a co-worker at a Tacoma retirement community, according to the state Department of Health.
Those charges come months after Pierce County prosecutors charged Ian Muigai, 26, with second-degree attempted rape, indecent liberties and unlawful conduct. Muigai has pleaded not guilty.
Muigai was a new employee and met the 19-year-old victim the day before the alleged assault. The two were assisting a resident when Muigai prevented the victim from leaving the bathroom and tried to force himself on her, according to charging papers.
He sent her several apologetic text messages after the incident and asked her to keep it a secret, records show. The victim called police.
Muigai has 30 days to respond to the unprofessional conduct charge.
