Pierce, Thurston counties foreclosure rate still high

Pierce and Thurston counties are the top 2 counties in the state for rates of homes in foreclosure, according to data out this week.

One in every 642 homes in Pierce County was in some stage of foreclosure in May, California-based data cruncher RealtyTrac reported this week. In Thurston, that rate is 1 in every 983 homes.

Nationally, in May, the rate of foreclosures is 1 in every 1,199 homes. The total number of foreclosure notices nationwide hit its lowest monthly point since December 2006.
