Instead of another funky tie or a pair of socks, take Dad fishing for Father’s Day.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is helping by stocking 10,000 1.5-pound triploid rainbow trout in 20 lakes this weekend.

Among the lakes being stocked are American (1,500), Clear (Thurston County, 250), Hicks (250), Vance Creek Pond No. 2 (100), Mason (500), Green (1,500),

This is the third straight year the agency has stocked triploid trout before Father’s Day, said Chris Donley, inland fish program manager.

“A fishing license is a great Father’s Day gift, and catching these big fish will make for some wonderful memories,” Donley said in a news release.

Fishing licenses can be purchased online at, by phone at 866-246-9453 or at hundreds of license dealers across the state. For vendor locations, go to
