Tacoma's DASH Center for dance and music closes doors for good

Tacoma News TribuneJune 16, 2014

After 10 years in its Hilltop location and another few months in the Old Post Office building in downtown Tacoma, the DASH Center for the Arts is closing its doors, founding director Candi Hall announced this week. There will be a final performance this Saturday.

Founded in 2003 by Hall, a professional dancer, the DASH Center (Dancing, Acting and Singing in Harmony) occupied the ground floor of the Normanna Hall building on South 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way since 2006, renovating the space and offering dance and music lessons to local youth as well as performance opportunities such as the KRUNK dance showcase and dance team Reality Check. After financial difficulties, Hall moved the DASH Center to the Old Post Office building on A Street last December, partnering with Spaceworks.

Now, in a recent letter, Hall announced that due to recent family changes she has opted to close the center. The Reality Check dance team will continue under new directorship, as will the DASH recording studios, in another location. The final DASH performance will be at 3 p.m. Saturday (June 21) at Theatre on the Square, 915 Broadway, Tacoma. Tickets are $10.

"While I am somewhat sad, I am very excited for the new chapter in my life," said Hall in the letter. "I have given all of me, and then some to the DASH Center and the youth here in Tacoma. It has truly been 'my baby.' "
