Northwest Cellars 2010 Coyote Canyon Vineyard Syrah

June 16, 2014

Appellation: Horse Heaven Hills

The lion's share of grower Mike Andrews' grapes go to Ste. Michelle, but he has a few clients aside from his own winery in Prosser. Kirkland vintner Robert Delf and Yakima Valley winemaker Robert Smasne took this small allocation of Syrah to great heights. It starts with aromas of baked brownie, black cherry, sizzling ham, marshmallow, vanilla cream and cracked black pepper. On the palate, there are flavors of blackberry, black currant and sarsaparilla in a structure that pushes raspberry acidity well beyond tannin. Rated "Outstanding!" by Great Northwest Wine. (14.1 percent alcohol)

Price: $32

Cases produced: 69

Food pairing: Enjoy this plush red with lamb shank, ribs, sautéed mushrooms or hearty lasagna.
